Thanks for being you! I know a lot of Christians and especially pastors who try to pass themselves off as perfect. I am happy that you are not afraid to share that you are just like each and everyone of us. We all are blessed to have an honest man for a pastor!!!

I love how God places people in our path to be mirrors for our own lives. Showing us the areas we can refine and transform to become more like Jesus - more holy. Nobody can control another person, but we can all have control over our own actions.
Personally, were I in your situation I know I too would be angry. And I don't think it is a bad thing to be angry in this situation. (Actually, I would have likely been scared. Scared for the dangerous situation this man put me and my family in. Yet, it would come out as anger.) I think the key is how we can appropriately express our anger.
The lifelong process of holiness for me includes ownership of my piece of the problem, a drive to growth and development in myself, surrendering everything that gets in the way of truth & love, and purity of heart. I appreciate you taking the time to recognize this in yourself instead of just making the other driver wrong for his actions. Kudos to you for sharing this and being dedicated to holiness. This is why I love you as my pastor!

Last fall the Cub Scouts passed out water for a 5K run in Prospect Heights. They all had a great time doing it. It would be cool if we could get the Children's Ministry on the water duty. :)

1. Food left out in rooms other than the kitchen or dinning room.
2. Clutter in walk ways.
3. Companies who call, but do not leave a message.
4. My cable company.
5. People driving and talking on the phone.
Not sure I like thinging about these things. How is this helping me?

I really appreciated the message and James and Jana's willingness to discuss their journey. I related to a lot of what they said; I too used to think that since I was young, I was exempt from giving regularly or that time was enough. I like how they brought out the importance of giving money AND time serving.
The book Money, Possessions, and Eternity by Randy Alcorn is a great one on this topic. It's helped me have a more eternal perspective on finances and possessions (as the title suggests!).

Oh sorry, I thought you were quoting him. He is a controversial christian singer/songwriter who sings a lyric about people thinking Jesus was a white middle class republican in one of his songs. The song is called "A King and a Kingdom". He used to belong to Caedmon's Call but does his own thing now. He writes great stuff that makes you think. My favorite album of his is "Mockingbird". This is one song off of it called "New Law" wear he mocks the mindless practices of a changing, non-questioning, "emerging" society.

The lyrics are:
New Law :
(vs. 1)
don’t teach me about politics and government
just tell me who to vote for
don’t teach me about truth and beauty
just label my music
don’t teach me how to live like a free man
just give me a new law
(pre-chorus)
i don’t wanna know if the answers aren’t easy
so just bring it down from the mountain to me
(chorus)
i want a new law
i want a new law
gimme that new law
(vs. 2)
don’t teach me about moderation and liberty
i prefer a shot of grape juice
don’t teach me about loving my enemies
don’t teach me how to listen to the Spirit
just give me a new law
(pre-chorus/chorus)
(bridge)
what’s the use in trading a law you can never keep
for one you can that cannot get you anything
do not be afraid
do not be afraid
do not be afraid

Some good ones there. To add to your list, I would say:
1. Complainers about everybody else.
2. Florescent light bulbs that buzz loudly.
3. The amount of money people spend in this country.
4. When people see sin as "being bad", and not anything that merely causes separation from God (especially those sins to which we are unaware and will one day be revealed).
4b. People who don't like to recognize their sins, and think they're pretty good.
5. The Cubs.

What an amazing week! As I type this, I have a feeling that I've had all week, and it is NOT stress! I don't know if it is the pride in all of the volunteers and thankfulness for the hard work, dedication, and time they brought to camp? Maybe it is is the hugs and smiles in the childrens faces, or the wonder of the innocent voices as they shared God Sightings and sang their hearts out? I do know that it was God at work in all of us, and I am thankful to Him and to everyone who He worked through to touch all the children.
